Date : 13 July 2008
Time : 2:00 PM
Cristi Walden, Docent of the Adamson Rindge House State Landmark and Board Member of the Malibu Historical Society is back again, by popular demand, presenting this acclaimed lecture. The materials she brings in addition to her beautiful slides take you back into the era of the peak of tile making in California and the marvelous story of a woman who built her own railroad to stave off Highway 1 crossing her property.
Malibu Potteries was not the only source responsible for bringing California tile into the homes and public buildings of Southern California during the early half of the twentieth century, but it may be the most famous – due in some part to the fascinating story of the famous Adamson/Rindge family of Rancho Malibu. Join us as Cristi Walden of the Malibu Lagoon Museum shares samples of vintage Malibu tiles, and hear the story of the Malibu Potteries from its founding in 1926 by May Rindge to its sad demise.
Cristi Walden is a Board Member of the Malibu Lagoon Museum and serves as a Docent for its Adamson/Rindge House. She was the Guest Curator of "California Tile: The Golden Era" at the California Heritage Museum. Cristi will bring the Rindge Family history to life and explore the artistry of Malibu Tiles.
